Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you I am a HUGE college football fan. But NFL – not so much.
What I do love about any football gathering is the food! I think I have heard of about 100 different things to stuff Buffalo Chicken into. It gets interesting. From the Ritz Cracker stadiums to the beer towers – food is a major part of this sporting event.
My favorite dish for any large gathering begins in the crockpot! It really is the easiest way to serve up a lot of folks without worrying about overcooking or keeping something warm.
We had quite the crowd around here on Sunday night, so I knew I needed something easy and filling for a lot of hungry bellies. Crockpot Beer Brats it is! In two shakes, I tossed a few packs of brats in the crockpot, onions and beer – put the lid on, and let the crockpot do the rest.
I will tell you, the scrubbing of the crockpot is the “wurst”. 😉 I stumbled across these PanSaver Crockpot Liners on Amazon and have never looked back. They are multi-use for the oven, microwave and crockpot. How easy is that? Just toss the bag in the trash when you are done. No leaking, sticking or tearing!
Originally, I found this recipe from Family Fresh Meals and made some minor adjustments. Ask my husband – following a recipe is not in my DNA!
Our recipes are both easy as pie. Simply place as many bratwursts in the crockpot as you need, cover with beer and add a few sliced onions and you are done! Not only is this a great recipe for football game days, but any day when a crowd is headed your way. And if you are a sports fan, chances are, you already have these ingredients stocked!
What are some of your favorite gameday recipes?
